Albemarle County Work Session on Ranked Choice Voting

Albemarle County Board of Supervisors will hold a Work Session on Ranked Choice Voting on November 4th, 2022. Delegate Sally Hudson will present on the topic.

Here are some reasons why FairVote Virginia supports Ranked Choice Voting for Virginia's local elections:

  • Places that already use RCV have seen higher turnout, cleaner campaigning, and greater engagement from diverse candidates and voters.

  • Exit polls show that most voters find it easy to understand and they like it.

  • RCV elections require a candidate to win with majority support, which improves results in races with a crowded field of candidates.

  • It can also be a solution to encourage more candidates to run, where there are few challengers.

We believe that RCV makes local elections more competitive, representative, and encourages issues-focused campaigns.
