There has been no new legislation proposing ranked choice voting for the 2021 General Assembly session. But there is still plenty to do to build on last year's successes! Our Board Members and local enthusiasts have been busy in Arlington, Richmond, and other localities advocating for the adoption of ranked choice voting in local elections. We have been coordinating with allies, meeting with elected officials, attending Board of Elections meetings, and presenting to civic organizations. We are building a network of partners to help spread the word about the benefits of RCV and how it can be adopted for local elections. FairVote Virginia has been flooded with enthusiastic inquiries about how to help! We will host a Virginia RCV Organizing Call, open to all of our followers and current volunteers, on Wednesday, February 3rd at 7:00 pm. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84365307789 We will discuss ideas on how to promote the adoption of ranked choice voting in Virginia localities and we would love to hear updates on any progress you've already made.
FairVote.org is hosting the first National RCV Day on January 23rd! We hope you can join #RCVDAY with a tweet, post and/or share to amplify RCV as a great first step and solution to a broken system. We'd love to see our followers use this day to ask their local, state, or US representatives where they stand on on RCV! See more at www.rcvday.org
Please join us in expressing gratitude to outgoing Board Members, Tina Bujno and Rich Gaffin Rich was one of our Founding Members from 2017. He played a major role in the continuity of our fledgling group of enthusiasts and helped us become an official 501(c)(4) organization. Tina kept us organized as Secretary. Both Board Members were highly professional and authoritative advocates when speaking with Delegates, Senators, and civic groups. We look forward to seeing RCV implemented where they each live! Current Harrisonburg area Board Member, Austin Sachs, will take on the important role of Treasurer.
